On Thursday (or maybe it was Friday) TikTok became available again on the app stores for both Apple and Android. I immediately re downloaded it.
And then I quickly began to regret my decision.
Here’s the thing – I am strongly against the ban for a multitude of reasons that I’ve discussed in previous posts. I don’t think it shares our data any more than meta or any of the other social media sites do. Banning it is a way for the government to block free speech. Etc etc etc.
However, the app is very much a time suck. You open it, start scrolling, and suddenly it’s hours later and nothing has been accomplished. I’ve also become a bit partial to the community I’m building on other sites. And, honestly, it’s only a matter of time before it’s banned again because Bytedance is never going to sell TikTok. And if it the ban isn’t enforced, what’s to stop Bytedance from pulling another stunt like they did on January 19th?
It’s left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth.
Anywho, aside from that I’m in a bit of a limbo this week.
Kiddo is out of school due to midwinter break so it’s a bit hard to get things accomplished because our routine is all out of whack. Having kiddo at home also makes it hard to film videos for YouTube because he’ll want to chime in if he hears me talking.
We’re also having contractors come out to the house to get quotes on the shop build we hope to get started in the next few weeks. I also plan on tackling the floor in the kitchen finally (the tiles have been sitting around since Thanksgiving)
And I still have no idea what I’m doing with the story I’ve been working on.
Ta-ta for now.
