I meant to post last week, but Wednesday was here and gone before I even realized it. It doesn’t help that it was also the end of the month at work, and this is our first end of the month with the new system, so there were all sorts of kinks to work out.
Anywho, because of all that chaos I didn’t get a chance to work on The Descendants at all. However, I do have more of that fanfic rewrite’s sequel to share. So, since today is April 8th, here are 8 paragraphs plus 1 for fun. Gareth has decided that Norah and Marcus need to come to his world. Norah was not included in this decision and is more than a little annoyed.
“I can walk, you know.” Norah snapped. She was beginning to tire of being carried around all the time. “And don’t I have any say about all this? What if I don’t want to go?”
“No, you can’t, and, no, you don’t.” His lips were pressed into a thin line, and his jaw was clenched tight. “You are not well…”
“Gee, I hadn’t noticed.” Sweat had dampened her hair against her head, and the uniform the mental institution had given to her when she had been admitted clung to her skin.
“I’m surprised you’re still awake, actually.”
“Me too.” She admitted. “Here I thought memory loss was the only side effect of electroshock therapy.” It was getting hard to stay focused again. She clutched at the fabric of his shirt, as if that would help anchor her to the here and now.
Gareth’s expression was grim. “There’s more to it than that. The good doctor was actually an assassin.”
“I gathered that from the chat you had with him before you smashed him like a bug. There was something in the IV, wasn’t there? A drug or a-”
“Yes.” He glanced behind them at where Aunt Bliss was hugging Marcus and smothering him with kisses. “Poison. The antidote only grows on the plains of Meeran – but there is plenty in stock at the castle. You’ll be dancing again by the full moon.”
Despite his promises, Norah could see the concern that lingered in his eyes. She leaned her head against his chest and listened to the strong beat of his heart. “Right.”
There’s that damn electroshock therapy creeping in again. Like I’ve mentioned before, I’ll change that as soon I have a chance to properly focus on this story and do more research. I’ll probably change the name of where the antidote Norah needs too – I was watching Game of Thrones and Meeran kinda snuck in there and I didn’t notice until now (though it is spelled differently so I could get away with it…)

I’m not sure I have enough context to comment on whether the electroshock belongs there, but it made me take notice because I have a family member who had it. I sense there’s more to this than meets the eye if there was an assassin involved and Gareth is worried despite the stock of antidote.

Awww. This is a very sweet scene on some levels. Granted, Gareth is being very bossy, but it’s because he is trying to keep her alive. 🙂

I can walk. Yeah. Nine times out of ten when somebody says that, they can’t. I’m thinking Norah wouldn’t get very far on her own. But at least she’s much safer now than she was. I hope.

Sometimes just being close to someone is enough. To listen to their heartbeat, feel their rapid breathing slow as you lean into them. I wonder what happens next?
