I meant to post last week, but a shooting in San Bernadino took the life of someone we knew through Faire. Between that and some other things that have been going on, I’ve been stuck in a rut. Today’s the first day where I feel somewhat normal.
Since I’m a day late on posting my WIPpet, I’ll keep it short and sweet. Since today is the tenth, here are seven lines (1+2-10=7) from The Descendants. This scene takes place shortly after Caelia brings Vivian and Tesni to her Villa outside of Pompeii.
The door creaked open, the rough wooden planks swinging outward. Tesni opened her eyes slightly, expecting to see the cook returning from her booty call but instead the light from the hearth fires illuminating the silhouette of a tall man. He made his way across the room, stepping over the bodies of her fellow sleeping servants like a dancer.
When he reached the far side of the room, he crept along the wall, his bare feet kicking up small puffs of dirt until he loomed above her. Tesni frowned, recognizing that their midnight visitor was none other than the guest who had snuck in to the kitchen earlier to grope the cook. If he was here, where was she?
Her questions were promptly forgotten though when the man dropped down to the ground next to her. He quickly shifted his body over hers, nuzzling her neck and slipping a knee between her legs.
Tesni rolled her eyes and responded by shoving her own knee into a rather sensitive part of his anatomy. Her attack had the desired response, for the guest yelped and pulled away.
He groaned, cupping himself, or protecting himself from further attack -it was hard to tell. “Vesta? What the… Why?”
Tesni sat up and glared at him. “Do I look like Vesta to you?”
He paled, gulping. “No, no you are not.”

That sounds unpleasantly surprising for both of them! Nice snippet.
I’m sorry about your friend. The whole situation was so horrifying. 😦

Thank you. I was worried that it might be a bit triggery, since, out of context it sounds like an assault, but really it’s a case of mistaken identity and a romantic surprise gone horribly wrong 🙂
Yeah, it was rough watching that all unfold. That probably seems like the understatement of the century, but words keep failing me whenever I try to elaborate.

Ouch! Definitely a good time to be VERY VERY SURE you’re canoodling with your intended co-canoodler!
I grieve with you for your loss. May we all find peace.
