Cruising Along…

We had some big changes in the house this week.Specifically, a friend loaned us her old portable dishwasher until we can buy a built in and get it installed. No more washing dishes by hand! Hello more free time!

So far I’ve been putting my new found freedom to good use. I’ve been working on the Descendants, unfortunately, I still haven’t made up my mind if I want to continue with book 1 or skip ahead to book 2. If you follow me on twitter you’ve probably seen my #2BitTues and #1LineWed. Almost all of these come from the second book in the series, and feature two of my favorite characters, so you can probably see why I’m so obsessed with book 2. Also, book 2 was the original start of the series.

But until I make up my mind, I’ll just keep plugging away.

When I’m not working on/driving myself crazy with the Descendants, I’ve been editing some of my other projects. I’ve also been going through some of my fanfics to figure out which one I want to start sharing on Fridays. Originally I had planned to share Anagha’s story – which is what I had been sharing snippets from up until last week. However it occurs to me that perhaps I should start from the very begging. So I’ve been working on getting that together. I did, however, find a very old story of mind from when I was high school – my freshman year to be exact. It’s been interesting to go back and reread, so I may share snippets from that on Fridays for now.

We’ll see.

Anywho, it’s Wednesday again – so you know what that means! WIPpet time!

WIPpet Wednesday is where we share snippets of the project that we are working on. However, the projects have to relate to the date in some way shape or form. So, since today is April 13th, here are 17 sentences (4+13=17) featuring Tesni and Felix from book 1 of The Descendants. This snippet picks up right from where last week’s snippet left off – Tesni has an unwelcome visitor who is more than a little intrigued by her prickly behavior (which is putting it mildly).

Tesni pursed her lips. The name was familiar. While she was never allowed out of the kitchen – mostly due to her attitude, as Felix had pointed out – other servants were, and she had heard whispers from them. The man laying next to her was the guest of Marcus. Rumor was he was a very skilled legate in the Roman army and was visiting Herculaneum and his friend on vacation from Israel. Which wasn’t called Israel currently – at least Tesni didn’t think it was. Her training had only covered the most basic of information should something go wrong and she end up lost like the other novitiates.

“You could be Hercules himself, and it still wouldn’t give you the right to go sneaking about trying to sleep with us slaves.”

He gave her a boyish grin that would probably send any girl swooning. “No one’s ever complained before.”

“Well I would hope they had a little more forewarning.”

“They were all very agreeable.” He rolled onto his side, resting his head on his fist. “You on the other hand…”

“Before you go any further, just stop. I’m not playing hard to get, and the whole pursuing a girl even though she says no – repeatedly – in an attempt to wear her down thing is so over done and offensive. Just give up and go to bed.”

It’s okay. Life gets crazy sometimes. Boyo’s therapy will be bumped up to 6 hours a week here soon, so I’m sure that will throw my plans out of whack, but hopefully I’ll be starting Anagha’s story from the beginning here soon.

As for Tesni, she doesn’t take crap from anyone 😉

We had a portable dishwasher. Moved. Took it with us. Found it didn’t work quite as well in the new house. Back to hand washing. 😦 At least I get to gaze out my window and daydream… um… plot noodle… while I’m washing.

I love that last line, give it up and go to bed! LOL

Ah, this scene reminds me of this fascinating post I read somewhere about Jo and Laurie (from Little Women(. Apparently, this particular opinion piece indicates that Laurie is nothing but a guy who repeatedly ignores Jo’s refusal of his advances over and over again, instead of respecting her when she says No it will never work. Ok so this scene might not be that deep. lol. I haven’t read Little Women in so long, that I’m not sure anymore what I think of Laurie.
Interesting excerpt from you, and I’d be interested to see how the rest of this scene plays out in context.
    My WIPpet post is here.
