I’ve been a big fan of The Handmaid’s Tale ever since I first learned about it in seventh grade (don’t worry – the teacher who told me about it made sure to edit out the more scandalous bits, and I didn’t actually read it until I was in eleventh grade) and I’ve really enjoyed watching Hulu’s adaptation of it.

Wattpad is currently holding a short story contest in celebration of its premiere. While some of the rules aren’t exactly beneficial to writers (from what I understand you don’t retain the rights to your story, but it would be considered fanfic so it’s not like you could do much with it anyways), there is a chance your story could be chosen by Margaret Atwood and included in a collection.

So I decided to give it a shot. And I have to say, I’m really quite proud of myself for keeping it under the 500 word limit.
