Meddling

I’m a bit tired today. I was up late writing and applying to jobs… and then we had another mouse sighting. After that I promptly shut myself in the bedroom and let the cats deal with it, and deal with it they did.

I haven’t run any new ads for Revenants this week. I meant to give Goodreads a shot but it just wasn’t in the budget. I did find a couple of groups on Facebook that you can advertise ebooks in, so I’ll be giving that a shot tonight to see how it goes. I’m also trying to promote my book on twitter a little bit more – while trying not to overwhelm my followers – but honestly that can be a bit hard sometimes when you have a three year old running around.

The pen name project is swimming along. I feel like I’m in countdown mode right now – every word, every sentence, brings me closer to the end. And it’s so exciting to finally finish a project in a timely manner (timely being three years compared to Revenants ten…)

So. Since I want to jump back into that project right now, let’s get down to business! It’s time for WIPpet Wednesday!

This week I’ll be featuring another snippet from The Broken Man, however this takes prior to the scenes in New York. The circus is on it’s way to California, and Cressida’s mother is trying to set her up with another member of the circus. Cressida doesn’t appreciate her meddling, especially since she doesn’t quite trust the man in question.

Today’s date is the twentieth of September, so here are ten paragraphs (20 divided by 2 equals 10) from Chapter 19.

“You could have been nicer to him.” Mama snaps as soon as he leaves.

“You could have not meddled in my love life.” Cressida snaps back. “He wants to get married.”

“What’s wrong with that? He’s a good man.”

“Who has dark thoughts.” Cressida crosses her arms over her chest. “What kind of good man has dark thoughts.”

“So? That could mean anything. Vesta is young. She was probably just imagining things.”

Her daughter hisses, “You know that isn’t true. She’s more of a seer than I am.”

Mama gives Graves’s still form a pointed look before turning her glare on her. She lowers her voice to a barely audible whisper. “Do I need to remind you to watch your words? Or are my suspicions about that man and the threat he poses correct?”

Cressida glowers right back at her. “You’re barking up the wrong tree, Mama. Both with Tinker, and with him.”

“You better rethink that man’s offer.”

“And you better stay out of my love life.” Cressida wraps herself in her coat once more and steps back out onto the cold rather than continue the argument.

Curious about the man and what dark thoughts he’s been having. Nice snippet 🙂

Oh, I hear ya on the job hunting! I am in the process of that as well. It’s my least favourite activity in the universe :/
