Happy Fourth…

It’s late here, and it’s been a long day, so I’m going to keep this week’s update short and sweet! Just the WIPpet and only the WIPpet… well, and maybe a quick ad as well.

In addition to being America’s birthday – it’s also my birthday as well. Yup. I’m a firecracker baby! In celebration, I am selling signed copies of Revenants for $8.99 plus shipping. Just send me an email or a message through facebook, and I’ll send you an invoice through Paypal.

So now that that’s out of the way, lets get on with the WIPpet!

wippet-wednesday

This week we’re stepping away from Elusion and diving into the world of Vivian Palmer. Since today is the Fourth, here are four paragraphs from book four of the Descendants. In it, Matthew has taken Vivian to a barbecue joint after she bails on a disastrous therapy session. There’s no need to be worried about spoilers, since it’s such a small scene, but I figured it was fitting since this is the Fourth of July.

It was a bit of a dive. Sawdust was scattered across the floor, and the chairs and tables were all mismatched – but not in that shabby chic way that was so popular right now. These were the cast offs of failed restuarants, all gleaming brass, red or green pleather, and scuffed shelac.

But the smells eminating from the kitchen in the back of the joint were promising. Vivian’s mouth watered as she detected notes of applewood and hickory dancing through the air, followed by the scent of barbeque beef. She eagerly took a seat at the counter. “God, I’ve missed this.”

Matthew looked at her as if she had grown another head. “Really? Three months ago you wouldn’t be caught dead in a joint like this.”

She pursed her lips. Right. Old Vivian prefered clubs and small plates to dinners and the neighborhood bar. “I meant, clearly I’ve been missing out.”
