I’ve posted before about why I decided to start sharing my projects on serialized fiction sites like Sequel or Wattpad. Basically, I spent a lot of time in my youth writing fanfic, uploading the chapters one at a time as a finished them, so serialization made a lot of sense to me. It still does, and I still enjoy it, but I’ve decided to make some changes to where I will be posting from here on out.
While it was exciting to get in during the beta faze of Sequel, the site itself has faded away. I have no idea what happened to it, or when, all I know is that it’s gone and the Facebook group for authors hasn’t seen an update in awhile.
Then, this past summer, Amazon launched Kindle Vella, which is their version of Wattpad, Radish, or Readict. I immediately jumped at the chance to become a Vella author. The first three chapters are free, and then after that you need tokens to continue reading. Also, authors can get bonuses just for readers interacting with their stories (interactions consist of favorites, crowns, etc)
There is a downside to Vella though – when you sign up as an author, you must agree to not share the story you are posting there on any other website for free. As a result of that I had to remove City of Ashes from Wattpad and Inkitt. I am looking into both Readict and Radish though, to see if they might be a good fit. Like Vella, they also run on Tokens, so by posting there, I would not be upsetting Amazon’s rules.
But for those that might be a little intimidated by buying tokens (which I totally understand, because it can be a bit overwhelming and pricey) I have launched a Patreon account where I will be sharing updates for City of Ashes and my new serial, The Stolen Wolf. That way you can pay one low monthly price instead of having to buy tokens to read updates. You can check it out here.
